Released exclusively in Japan in 1998, Toukon Road – Brave Spirits brings New Japan Pro-Wrestling to the Nintendo 64 in a hard-hitting wrestling experience developed by Yuke’s, the studio that would go on to become one of the biggest names in wrestling games.

Choose your wrestler and battle your way through a range of matches featuring stars from the New Japan Pro-Wrestling roster. The game puts an emphasis on timing, grappling and wrestling technique rather than simply mashing buttons, making it a surprisingly deep experience once you get to grips with its controls.

There’s plenty for solo players to work through, while multiplayer supports up to four players, making it a particularly fun addition to an N64 collection when you’ve got friends around.

The Japanese release is particularly interesting for collectors because Toukon Road – Brave Spirits never received a Western release. It’s a genuine Japan-only Nintendo 64 title and a great example of the Japanese wrestling games that never made it to Australian shelves.

Released on 4 January 1998, this version features Japanese text and menus.
