Pocket Monsters Snap (1999) – Nintendo 64 (Japanese Version) – Cartridge Only

Grab your camera and head to Pokémon Island in Pocket Monsters Snap, the original Nintendo 64 Pokémon photography adventure.

Released in Japan in March 1999, Pocket Monsters Snap puts you in the role of a Pokémon photographer, travelling through a series of natural environments to capture Pokémon on film. Rather than battling or catching Pokémon, your goal is to observe them in their natural habitats and take the best photographs you can.

Hop aboard the ZERO-ONE and explore beaches, caves, rivers, volcanoes and other Pokémon habitats as you search for the perfect shot. Pokémon react to their surroundings and to your actions, so you’ll need to pay attention to what they’re doing and look for those special moments.

Once you’ve finished a course, Professor Oak evaluates your photographs, scoring them based on factors such as the Pokémon’s size, position and behaviour. Take better photographs to earn higher scores and unlock new areas, giving you access to even more Pokémon and photo opportunities.

With its unusual photography-based gameplay, charming presentation and wonderfully inventive Pokémon interactions, Pokémon Snap remains one of the most distinctive Pokémon games on the Nintendo 64.

The Japanese release is known as Pocket Monsters Snap (ポケモンスナップ) and launched in Japan on 21 March 1999. It was subsequently released internationally, so this is a Japanese version rather than a Japanese exclusive.

The game features Japanese text and menus.

Please note: this is a Japanese NTSC-J cartridge and requires compatible Japanese or region-compatible Nintendo 64 hardware to play.

A charming Pokémon classic and an essential addition for anyone collecting Japanese Nintendo 64 games.
