Take control of your own racing stable with Jikkyō GI Stable, Konami’s Japanese-exclusive horse-racing simulation for the Nintendo 64.

Released exclusively in Japan in 1999, Jikkyō GI Stable puts you in charge of building and managing a successful racing stable. Rather than simply jumping into a race, you’ll need to develop your horses, manage your finances, make training decisions and carefully plan your racing career.

Create and customise your own horses and jockeys, develop bloodlines through the breeding system and choose which races to enter as you work towards success on some of Japan’s most famous courses, including Tokyo, Nakayama, Kyoto and Sapporo.

There’s plenty of depth for horse-racing fans, with flat racing, jump racing and even Ban’ei racing, where horses pull heavy sleds up sand-covered slopes. You can also register and edit horses and jockeys, giving you plenty of control over your stable.

The game supports up to four players and features a substantial management system — fittingly, the original Japanese manual is reportedly 92 pages long, making it one of the largest Japanese Nintendo 64 manuals.

Never released outside Japan, Jikkyō GI Stable is a fascinating example of the specialist sports and simulation games that were produced exclusively for the Japanese Nintendo 64 market.

The game is entirely Japanese-language, with menus, horse information and management systems presented in Japanese. An understanding of Japanese will be required to get the most out of the game.
