Jikkyō J.League 1999: Perfect Striker 2 (1999) – Nintendo 64 (Japanese Version) – Cartridge Only

Take to the pitch with Jikkyō J.League 1999: Perfect Striker 2, Konami’s fast-paced Nintendo 64 football game featuring the teams and players of Japan’s J.League.

Released in Japan in 1999, Perfect Striker 2 builds on the arcade-style football of its predecessor with updated teams, players and competitions from the 1999 J.League season.

Choose from Japan’s professional clubs and take control on the pitch, with a range of match and competition modes designed around fast, accessible football. The game puts an emphasis on attacking play, quick passing and shooting, making it a particularly enjoyable multiplayer option for the Nintendo 64.

The game features the 1999 J.League season, making it a great time capsule of Japanese football at the end of the 1990s. For collectors, it’s an interesting snapshot of the clubs, players and football culture of the era.

Developed and published by Konami, Perfect Striker 2 is part of the same series that would eventually become known internationally as International Superstar Soccer. The Japanese Perfect Striker games are therefore an interesting part of the history of one of Konami’s most celebrated football franchises.

Unlike many of the Japanese-exclusive sports titles in the N64 library, Perfect Striker 2 has a strong connection to a well-known international series — making it a particularly fun addition for anyone interested in the history of Konami football games.

The game is presented entirely in Japanese, so some knowledge of Japanese may be helpful when navigating menus and competition modes.

Please note: this is a Japanese NTSC-J cartridge and requires compatible Japanese or region-compatible Nintendo 64 hardware to play.

A great piece of late-1990s Japanese football history and an interesting entry in the evolution of Konami’s Perfect Striker series.
