Known in Japan as Pikachu Genki Dechu, Hey You, Pikachu! is a unique Pokémon spin-off that uses the Nintendo 64’s Voice Recognition Unit to let players communicate directly with Pikachu. Speak commands into the microphone and Pikachu will listen, react and respond to what you say.

Rather than traditional Pokémon battles, the game is built around spending time with Pikachu and building your friendship. Take trips together, go fishing, collect ingredients, explore different areas and give Pikachu toys and objects to interact with.

The voice recognition system is what makes the game particularly memorable. Pikachu can respond to a range of spoken words and commands, turning the game into something closer to a virtual Pokémon companion than a traditional adventure. The game recognises around 200 words, including Pokémon moves such as ThunderShock, Thunderbolt and Thunder.

Released in Japan in December 1998, this is the original Japanese version of the game. The Japanese release is known as Pikachu Genki Dechu, while the game was released as Hey You, Pikachu! in North America in 2000.
