Star Wars: Teikoku no Kage (1997) – Nintendo 64 (Japanese Version) – Cartridge Only

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…

Step into the Star Wars universe with Star Wars: Teikoku no Kage, the Japanese Nintendo 64 release of Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire.

Developed by LucasArts and published by Nintendo, Shadows of the Empire puts you in the role of Dash Rendar, a mercenary caught up in the conflict between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire. With Darth Vader and the Empire threatening Luke Skywalker, Dash is drawn into a mission that takes him from the Battle of Hoth to encounters with bounty hunters, Stormtroopers, AT-STs and the forces of the Black Sun crime syndicate.

The game combines third-person shooting with vehicular combat and exploration, taking you across 10 varied stages. You’ll battle through the Battle of Hoth, pilot a Snowspeeder, take on enemies on foot and face off against some of the most recognisable characters and locations from the Star Wars universe.

The Japanese version is particularly interesting for collectors thanks to its title, Star Wars: Teikoku no Kage, which translates roughly to Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire. It was released in Japan on 14 June 1997 and carries the Japanese product code NUS-NSWJ-JPN.

This is a Japanese version rather than a Japanese exclusive — the game was also released in Australia, Europe, North America and other territories.

Please note: this is a Japanese NTSC-J cartridge and requires compatible Japanese or region-compatible Nintendo 64 hardware to play.

A classic piece of N64 Star Wars history and a great addition to any Nintendo 64, Star Wars or Japanese import collection.
