Step into the Mushroom Kingdom in 3D with Super Mario 64, the game that helped redefine platforming and became one of the most iconic Nintendo 64 titles of all time.
Released in Japan in 1996 as one of the Nintendo 64’s launch titles, Super Mario 64 was Mario’s first major adventure in a fully 3D world. Explore Princess Peach’s castle, discover hidden rooms and paintings, collect Power Stars and take on Bowser across a series of imaginative worlds.
From the moment Mario steps into Peach’s castle, Super Mario 64 showcases what the Nintendo 64 could do. Its open-ended levels, precise movement and freedom to explore helped establish a new blueprint for 3D platformers and influenced generations of games that followed.
This is the original Japanese version of Super Mario 64, released in Japan on 23 June 1996 — several months before the North American release and almost a year before the Australian release. The Japanese version features Japanese text and menus.
Please note: this is a Japanese NTSC-J cartridge and requires compatible Japanese or region-compatible Nintendo 64 hardware to play.
An essential piece of Nintendo 64 history and a must-have for any Mario, Nintendo or retro gaming collection.
