Known in Japan as Jikū Senshi Turok, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter is a first-person shooter developed by Iguana Entertainment and published by Acclaim. Released in 1997, it was one of the earliest third-party games for the Nintendo 64 and helped demonstrate what the console could do with a fully 3D action game.

Take control of Turok, a time-travelling warrior tasked with stopping the evil Campaigner from using the ancient Chronoscepter to tear apart the barriers between different eras. Explore the dangerous Lost Land, hunt down pieces of the shattered Chronoscepter and battle everything from dinosaurs to heavily armed enemies.

The game combines first-person shooting with exploration, platforming, puzzles and a huge range of weapons. The Lost Land is filled with hidden paths and secrets, encouraging you to explore beyond the obvious route as you work your way through its levels.

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter was a landmark release for the Nintendo 64. It was the first first-person shooter on the console and the first third-party N64 release, helping establish the platform as more than just a home for Nintendo’s own games.

The Japanese version is particularly interesting for collectors thanks to its alternate title, Jikū Senshi Turok, and its Japanese packaging and presentation. It was released in Japan on 30 May 1997, several months after the North American release.
