Ucchannanchan no Honō no Challenger: Denryū Iraira Bō (1997) – Nintendo 64 (Japanese Exclusive) – Cartridge Only

Take on one of the strangest and most uniquely Japanese games in the Nintendo 64 library with Ucchannanchan no Honō no Challenger: Denryū Iraira Bō.

Released exclusively in Japan in 1997, this unusual puzzle game is based on the “Iraira Bō” electric wire challenge from the Japanese television show Ucchannanchan no Honō no Challenger. The premise is simple: guide your stick through a series of increasingly difficult courses without touching the sides, all while racing against the clock.

Across six challenging courses, you’ll need a steady hand and precise control to navigate tight corners, obstacles and moving hazards. Your performance is rewarded with different rankings, from bronze through to platinum, giving you plenty of reason to go back and try for a faster, cleaner run.

The game also supports two-player competition, allowing you and a friend to race through the courses in split-screen multiplayer.

Never released outside Japan, Denryū Iraira Bō is exactly the kind of wonderfully obscure title that makes exploring the Japanese Nintendo 64 library so much fun. It’s a fascinating snapshot of Japanese television culture and one of the more unusual games in the N64 catalogue.

The game features Japanese text and menus. Please note that an understanding of Japanese may be required to get the most out of the game.

Please note: this is a Japanese NTSC-J cartridge and requires compatible Japanese or region-compatible Nintendo 64 hardware to play.

A bizarre, challenging and distinctly Japanese piece of Nintendo 64 history — perfect for collectors who like their retro games a little unusual.
